I've experimented with various strings over the years, since my violin needs toning down in the upper register and firming up in the lower. I'd originally tried a Warchal Brilliant G and liked it, but knew those would probably be too bright for the other strings. Then I bought a set of the Karneols, and they were smooth but a bit lackluster on my violin. The Ametysts sound surprisingly even across all my strings (the E is good but a bit too bright, so I use a Hill instead). They provide a well-supported sound that's a bit more "special" than what I get with Helicores, but still allow me to blend in an orchestra. I've always received excellent service from Concord and am pleased that they carry the Ametysts (Shar does not).
